The 'Welcome to Africa' kindergarten through sixth grade program is intended for students who know very little about Africa. The major goal of the presentation is to illustrate that Africa is an exciting, interesting continent of diverse landscapes and peoples. It aims to show students images of Africa that they might not normally encounter in newspapers or on television in the United States.
If time permits, we are open to modifying the presentations to best meet teachers’ needs and/or respond to specific questions the students have.
Presenters are volunteer graduate students specializing in the study of Africa as well as African students or faculty at Indiana University. Certain aspects of the program will therefore depending on the region or country the presenter knows best and the language(s) s/he speaks.
