Great ideas for virtual field trips - www.scholastic.com/teachers/article/grades-k-1-virtual-field-trips Mrs. Chaviano's 8th grade Spanish students connected with students in Agentina for an email exchange program. Schedules and computer access time made it challenging, but piloting this year was great preparation for next year to again pair up and practice Spanish writing skills - and hopefully meet face to face with the video conferencing system! @FerrarelliM Mrs. Murphy arranged for the 5th graders to vist Angel Island last month to compliment their immigration unit. Great interaction for the students, thanks to the California State Parks system! Fifth graders in the classes of Mrs. Shatkus, Mrs. Macleod, and Mrs. Slazyk visited with author Wendy Mass today. She was very interesting and gave great writing suggestions! Mrs. Mastroianni's 1st grade class had a long distance visitor this spring from a science center in Ohio who taught the class all about FROGS! In this interactive program, the class explored the lifecycle of a frog, identified characteristics of amphibians, and developed an understanding of metamorphosis. Would you like to participate in data analysis with classes from all over the world? STEM projects hosted by the Center for Innovation in Engineering and Science Education have the best opportunities. All projects are expertly moderated, innovatively designed, and easily to participate in! They also allow for connections with other schools for video conferencing opportunities. http://ciese.org/materials/k12/technology/online-collaboration/ "In this live, interactive program, students will meet and learn some of the many animals in the tropical rainforest. The program will begin by begin by introducing students to some of the types of animals that live in the rainforest. By observing some of these animals students will predict what they might eat and what body parts they use to get their food. Using exciting videos we will discuss how we know what something eats. Looking at skulls, students will discover some of the physical adaptations animals have to eat. Then to demonstrate behavioral adaptations for eating, we will model how some snakes, fish, and bats hunt for their food, including playing an echolocation game. Finally, students will have a chance to ask questions of Academy staff all about these rainforest animals!" Grades 2-4..... Why not add some distance-learning to your Earth Day activities?
